Simon Ashworth

Simon is an academic researcher based in Switzerland at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) “Institute of Facility Management” (IFM).
He also has over 20 years practical FM experience working with Serco in the UK on a wide range of FM contracts including a 25-year PFI at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom.
At the IFM Simon is responsible for MSc and BSC courses focused on the digitalisation of Real Estate and FM. His PhD with Liverpool John Moores University focused on “The Evolution of Facility Management in the Building Information Modelling Process: An Opportunity to use Critical Success Factors to Optimise Built Assets”. He also has two master’s degrees: an “MSc in FM”, and ‘MSc in Engineering & Business Management’, a ‘BEng in Civil Engineering’ and achieved the ‘EuroFM Researcher of the year 2017’.
He has worked closely with the UK Institute of Workplace and Facility Management (IWFM) as a Chair of the ‘BIM Collaboration & Tools Working Group’ and is an active member of IFMA Schweiz, FMPro Schweiz and buildingSMART in Switzerland. He is currently working on a range of funded research projects looking at how digitalisation can help deliver new and innovative solutions to help Facility Management.
